About Me
HELLO!
My name is Corinne Morkovsky and I come from the small town of Floresville, Texas. Floresville is home to the annual Peanut Festival (one of my personal favorite events in the world!). I am the youngest of three - my brother, Travis, is a second mate on an oil and chemical tanker, and my sister, Molly, studies landscape architecture at A&M. My current hobbies include crafting, cooking, traveling (both near and far), fishing at the coast with my family, and exercising. During my time at A&M, I've gotten to experience many neat opportunities. I spent three years in CARPOOL, a volunteer student organization that aims to end drunk driving by providing free, safe rides home for anyone in the Bryan/College Station community every weekend during the school year. Additionally, I studied the German language for a year and a half and got the chance to spend one summer in Bonn, Germany learning and practicing it. Last but not least, I've had the chance to work toward a major I enjoy (English) while earning a certificate that helps me develop my passion and prepare for my future career (the Professional Event Management Certificate). |
WHY EVENTS?
My love for event planning & management has been present almost my whole life. When I was very young and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always answer that I wanted to work at Party City. (Yes, that was really my dream job!) I remember planning imaginary weddings at around age seven or eight, carefully drawing the floral arrangements in Microsoft Paint, picking a venue (typically, our backyard), and making fake invitations out of construction paper to send to guests. On the special occasions where my mom would let me pick out a magazine in the grocery store, I would almost always go for bridal magazines, looking through them over and over and making collages out of my favorite photos.
Though I always thought of events as a fun hobby, it took me all the way until the end of my sophomore year of college to realize that it could be much more than that. I entered A&M as a business major, switched to Food Science & Technology, then switched one last time to English. These fields were all interesting to me, but none had ever made me feel truly excited for my future. When I eventually learned that A&M had a program for event management, I quickly applied for it and fell in love with it from the very first day of the introduction course.
The more knowledge I gain - both through events-related classes and real-world event experience - the more I am determined to pursue a career in the field of events. I enjoy the multidimensional aspects of it - how you develop professional relationships with clients yet get to know them on a personal level, how you work in an office but also get the "field experience" of going out to event sites, and how you deal with the logistical details of events but get to see the creative and conceptual sides of them too. I am excited to continue to work hard in the field that I love and see where it takes me!
